The promoter had put on the aSW post/thread that Amika would be complimentary before 11.00pm for aSW last Sat so I told all my friends it would be. Excuse my French but it was a unanimous opinion about her. The following is the exchange I had with the b**** at the door at 10.50pm after having spent 20 min in the queue with 20 friends:I: "So...it's free as we are from aSW on Winston guest list."Door B****: "???"I handed the printout of the aSW thread which she did not even look at.I: "The promter said it would be complimentary"B****: "He should not have said that as I choose who gets in for free".I: "???, but it's written here."B****: "Guys pay to get in, it's ALWAYS like this. Do you want to get in or step aside?"I: "???, so girls at least don't pay to get in?"B****: "I choose which girls pay or don't pay. Do you want to get in or not?" And she said it loud enough for the whole group to hear which made me lose face in front of all my friends.I was so shocked, that not only was it not free which made me look like I had bulls*****d, but her behaviour...We ended up going in but swore never to return to Amika again. She made all the guys pay £20 and the music was quite poor until 2.00am.I go into nightclubs usually paying the door charge so I don't mind paying but I have also been to complimentary events and have never experienced what happened to me last Sat. Where have they found this girl?
I completely disagree with anybody who says this club is good..the music is just about ok if you have had some class A drugs so that anything sounds bearable, the drinks are not only ridiculously priced and consist mainly of ice,but after 5 large vodka cranberries I didnt even feel slightly light headed, making me believe their drinks are watered down prior to the entrance of the unknowing customer and the place is so overpacked(I wonder if the council knows how many 'victims'this place crams in)that you have to pre plan 30 mins prior to needing the bathroom.I would reccommend anybody to go elsewhere than to be robbed of a great night out in this dark hole.
I don't have blonde hair or blue eyes but this has never stopped me from doing anything in my whole life, until Saturday. The door b!tch at Amika without so much as a second glance told us the club was full (at 12.30am and after 1 hour of waiting) and that, well, it wasn't worth our time waiting for people to leave. Obviously this place is just too exclusive for adhering to a guest list (maybe they should save us all some time and get people to send in photos). With the rope unclipped, we were pointed to the direction of the foot path...
When I looked back and saw that noone else had been moved out, I took our refusal of entry a little more personally (I'm putting it down to race), and so I had a few more words with the lady at the door with the clipboard, (oh how I wish I could be that cool). I told her that noone else had been shovelled onto the foot path from the line, she looked at me again and said, they are all VIP, and well, you are not. I may not be VIP to Amika and I can deal with that, but I really doubt that all of the people behind us were... (I too can look people up and down).
Having read the previous reviews, it seems that I owe the clipboard woman a massive thank you, she saved me £20 (that I happily drank away at another club), and it seems as though queuing up was definitely not worth the wait, so don't waste your time. If you make it in, all it seems like you're privileged to do is people watch and admire nice decor, and if no one new is being let in after midnight, how long can that much fun last? Especially if the drinks are too expensive for the alcohol induced vision enhancement to take effect (otherwise known as beer goggles): your eligibility pool may not get deeper. Surely there are better things and more exciting places to go to on a Saturday night.
Yes I was bitter at being rejected entry, but having read the previous reviews, I now consider myself one of the lucky ones and I want to share my good fortune with you.
Amika is definately, in terms of decor, one of the best clubs in London. I was fortunate to have a VIP table on saturday and had a really amazing time. You have to go into a place like this knowing what to expect, high prices, pretentious ppl and a lot of money flying about. When i ventured into the main room to find a Cheryl I did come across quite a few "up themselves" girls who thought they were the next best thing. Even on a rammed dance floor, you would think i was committing a crime but saying excuse me. One girl even gave me a barrage of abuse for slightly knocking into her. However, did this not spoil the evening as the VIP room, although slightly packed, was a good retreat to pour me some vodka and have a good time. I would recoomend this place if u have 9 mates who are willing to spend 100 quid each. You prob end up doing it anyway so might as well get a table and dont go too silly. also if u r going to a place like this, expect high prices and a few idiots, but as long as u keep an open mind, its def a good night out. Waitresses are hot in their corsets, music is good and some of Amikas guest are a good chat.
yes yes yes - all of the reviews that speak badly of the club are correct
This was once for a very short period of time a fantastic club, when the original owner was present - it was set up by a very cool young guy who designed it all etc and had some other partners. After he got ousted, they have decided to put a 23 year old toff in charge!! brilliant idea - its his first job too! The door staff are thick and rude, there are three of the incompetent little girls to get through even though im sure if you asked them all to spell their names backwards they would find it bear on impossible.
The moronic owners (there are around 12 of them now because each is such a minor shareholder) have NO Idea how to run a club so instead they have left it to a child and his vile ugly entourage of wannabe glamour models and daddys girls..... This place has no class - the only people who go to it now are promoters drinking thier free alcohol and hoping to shag girls in the toilets! STAY WELL CLEAR OF THIS CLUB
I have to say this is by far the worst and most ridiculous place I have ever been! We too encountered the 'clip board bitch' and we should have taken that as a sign of things to come!
We went there on my sisters hen weekend and were told we were on the guest list and all 11 of us could get in free...we should have known! After waiting in the queue for 40 minutes we were told only 6 of us could get in free and all the other were to be charged £20!! Shocking but we paid it anyway and proceeded down the dark stair cases, congregated at the bottom of the stairs to make sure we had everyone and got shouted at twice by the burly bouncers to 'get out the way'!! We then moved into the 'chandellier bar' where I saw those hideous twins from Ladette to Lady and I should have known the level of pretentiousness that surrounded us! I cant tell you how many looks down peoples noses we got! Horrendously over capacity i was getting pushed from pillar to post & i nearly lost it at one girl who was purposely knocking into me.
£26 for two G&T's later we decided that this dark shite hole was no place for us, so we left...
The worst bit was yet to come! We physically could not get out of the door as there was so many people saying 'i wanna get out of this sh##t hole' and just barging their way through! my Mum's feet got lifted off the ground at one point from the force of people behind her.
The bouncer was pushing me too! absolute nightmare i wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy, if you want my honest advice this place is a pile of rubbish, nasty bouncers, pretentious snobby bitches on the door, over priced and dark, pretentious and to be honest pretty scary. Yeah great the decor is well done, but so what if there are too many people in there for you to see it!!
I dont even want to give amika one star but i cant figure out how to give it none!!
Very small, but perfectly formed, Amika is gorgeous in terms of decor. A lovely place for a relaxed evening with friends, but not ideal if it's a clubbing extravaganza you had in mind. For a start, there is no dance floor and space really is an issue with seating taking up far too much of what there is. The ambience is chilled and friendly. Yes, drinks are expensive, but that's to be expected of anywhere in Kensington.
I was there last night and this place is dreadful. In spite of having gone in quite drunk, this place sobered me up cos I was so bored! Pretentious prats, no dancefloor (how stupid! how can a club not have a place to dance?) overcrowded, dreadful DJs playing tacky music and drinks are mega expensive. Fair enough, the decor is v nice but this is the only thing this club has going for it.
