There’s not really a point in reviewing a place like this – it does exactly as promised- deliver a proper w**kfest of nobbyness and if you like that sort of thing, you will love this place. I guess the really sad thing about this bar like this is that some people actually like this sort of place. The drinks are relatively nice, the decor is a bit fun, the service was not quite as obnoxious as one may expect and the vibe seemed quite friendly – although the music was dreadful – a mix of pop and lift music. The truth is, it’s more like a theme bar in Sheffield or a novelty bar in a expensive hotel in Bulgaria – just with rich people. I guess if you care about seeing celebs, if you want people’s attention drawn to you by the fact your drink is pricey enough to warrant a sparkler this place is right up your street. If you’re not really a fan of such things it’s a bit disappointing. I’d hoped to see something a bit more extreme and extravagant, a little more distasteful, notably digusting things and perhaps some wonderfully special things - instead it’s all a bit nicer and more pleasant than I hoped, so much so, there’s just no need to go check out what all the fuss is about.
I travel a lot with the magazine i work for and so have been to number of clubs, bars etc. all over the place. London i think has the best to offer in terms of reliable nightlife everyday of the week. However, Mahikis was terrible, don't bother. Funky dudha or even an old pub beats this shamble. Bad music, hot, unreliable, rude and terrible staff, many girls/woman looking for free drinks, were harassed a number of times by older business men that just wouldn't give up, when you found some younger people they were snobs that preferred spending loads of cash on drinks to chating or dancing, prices were ok for the drink you got, some good cocktails and the chest was an expirience, although the cost of thingschanged many times over the night. Overall it's a shame i can't put lower than a 1star.
Absolutely 100% Crap. Don't bother!
Yeah, this place is definitey overated. It seems that this venue is desperately trying to hang onto their reputation from the past. You would probably have a better time at your local Weatherspoons. The door staff were rude and unreasonable. Whilst popping outside for a cigarette we were asked to move away from the entrance (fair enough), when re-entering the club, the door staff decided that we had to queue and pay again as they hadn't given us stamps on the way out. Ridiculous!!!!The price of drinks varied from bar tender to bar tender, and on some occasions the drinks weren't rung up through the tills. A single vodka and cranberry juice - £10.It's not all bad though, the atmosphere is relaxed and it's not pretentious. They definitely need to invest in some sort of aircon....Not highly recommended.
This is the most overrated club in London. As an American who has gone clubbing in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and New York, I was shocked at the 15 pound cover charge before midnight... and for beautiful ladies too! I have never been charged this much at the clubs at home. I think the appeal of this place is that supposedly famous people go here? Try the Funky Bhudda down the street. It has a younger, cooler crowd... and is more fun.
I went here with friends for a night out! We didn't have a problem getting in, but that was because we were with some famous faces. It was great fun! The decor was fab- and created a great atmosphere. The music was great- good for dancing! The drinks were expensive, but there were plenty of men looking to chat with girls and willing to buy drinks- not in a sleasy way, everyone just seemed happy to have a laugh and chat with eachother. Take Mahiki for what it is, a place to have a laugh. Don't take it too seriously, just enjoy it! I would definitley go again.
Beware of tight females squeezing you for drinks! Drinks not cheap but even more expensive when barstaff try to make you pay for other peoples as well! All up a decent place and despite the minority try-hard staff & wanna-be-royals the atmosphere on the whole is pretty good. You'll also work up more of a sweat here than in any sauna.
Awful staff! The venure is o.k but the staff are just awful. I went for my friends 21st and they were so toffee nosed it was borderline a joke! Even though we had more than enough money to spend there they obviously looked at us and thought otherwise (considering that we had a few highly offensive comments regarding our race!). In the end we had to leave as we were treated so horribly. Don't go unless your an a-list celeb or of royal blood otherwise you will be treated like dirt!!!
